What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a powerful, evidence-based modality designed to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they no longer trigger intense emotional or physical distress.
EMDR therapy is unique because it does not require you to describe your traumatic experiences in exhaustive detail. Instead, it focuses on the way memories are stored in the brain. When a traumatic event occurs, the brain’s natural processing system can become overwhelmed, “locking” the memory in its original, distressing form. EMDR therapy helps memories to be "reprocessed" and no longer hold the traumatic distress.
